How to Generate Pictures with Image Wand
System Requirements
This tip works on any iPhone 16 model running iOS 18.2 or later with Apple Intelligence enabled. Find out how to update to the latest version of iOS.
The Image Wand feature uses Apple Intelligence to generate art. This works by combining prompts with a hand-drawn sketch, although it is possible to generate an image without sketching it first. You can use the Image Wand on your iPhone and iPad in the Notes app as long as your device is compatible with Apple Intelligence and is running the latest software.
- Open the Notes app.
- Tap the New Note icon in the bottom right corner.
- Tap the Markup Icon.
- Create a sketch if you wish, or leave it blank. From the options at the bottom, select the Image Wand icon in between the Select and Ruler tools.
- Using the Imade Wand tool, circle your sketch that you’d like to transform or a blank spot where you would like to generate an image. A pop up will appear prompting you to describe the image you wish to create. The more detailed your description, the more accurate your image will be. Tap the plus icon to pick your style.
- You can select Animation, Illustration, or Sketch. Tap the one that works best for you.
- Tap Done on your keyboard.
- You will soon see a generated image. If you tap the More menu (three dots) you can Copy, Share, Save the Image, or Report a Concern.
- Swipe left over the image to see other versions of the generation.
- You can also add details to improve the generated image.
- Every time you add a description, you will see the prompt around the generated image. Tap the minus icon to remove that part of the prompt (or the original sketch).
- Once you are satisfied with your generated image, tap Done in the top right corner.
- If you decide you aren’t satisfied with the image you generated, tap on the image in the Notes app with the Image Wand tool selected, then tap the Apple Intelligence icon in the menu above the image.
Keep in mind that if you don’t Save an image using the More menu, you might not be able to get back to that version of the generated image after you tap Done. I like to save whatever looks good to make sure I don’t lose that version. Saved images appear in the Photos app.
