How to Use Math Notes in the iPhone Calculator App
Apple now lets the Calculator app users graph equations, create and use variables, and solve mathematical expressions with Math Notes. Here's how to use Math Notes on your iPhone!
Note: Math Notes uses the same operations as your iPhone's scientific calculator.
To solve expressions:
- Open the Calculator app on your iPhone.
- Tap the Calculator icon.
- Tap Math Notes.
- If it's your first time using Math Notes, you'll see a summary to read. Read it, then tap Continue.
- Tap a previous Math Note or the New Note icon to begin your Math Note.
- Now you can type a math expression, then tap the space bar, and an equal sign and the answer will appear.
- Tap the Pencil icon and write a math expression horizontally with your finger, then write an equal sign. An answer will automatically appear.
- Tap the equal sign to get an answer, and tap Copy to copy the expression, or Remove Result to delete the expression from Math Notes.
- Tap the Pencil icon and write a math expression vertically with your finger, then draw a horizontal line underneath. Write a different symbol to the left of each number to change operations.
- As before, you can tap the answer to see the typed-out equation and open the options to copy or remove the result.
Note: A dotted red line indicates an error involving unsolvable expressions and unrecognized math. Tap the red line for more details.
A blue dotted line indicates ambiguous characters. You can tap the blue lines to rewrite what you wrote.
In addition to solving mathematical expressions, you can change or update values in those expressions, use variables in equations and expressions, and decide if you want your iPhone to solve problems, suggest results, or neither.
