Can Apple Watch translate? Translating in real time, just got a whole lot easier thanks to watchOS 11’s new Translate app. The Translate app has been available on iPhone for some time, but now, you can translate without ever having to pull out your phone.

How To Use the Translate App on Apple Watch

This tip works on Apple Watches running watchOS 11 or later. Find out how to update to the latest version of watchOS.

The Translate app is installed by default when updating to watchOS 11. You can find it in your App List or Home Screen, depending on how you have your Apple Watch set up. Here’s how to use the Apple Watch translator:

  1. Open the Translate app.

  2. Tap the language on the top to change which language you will be speaking.

  3. Tap the language on the bottom to change the language that you will be translating to.

  4. Tap the arrows if you want to swap the two languages.

  5. Tap the microphone when you are ready.

  6. Speak aloud and your watch will automatically detect when you are done speaking and translate for you. You can also tap the stop button when you are done speaking.

  7. Your watch will speak the translation aloud, and it will be available in your translation history. You can tap the play buttons to hear either the original phrase or the translation.

  8. Swipe left on a translation to delete it.

  9. Tap the delete button.

  10. Swipe right on translation to favorite it.

  11. Tap the Favorite button.

  12. You can find your favorites by tapping the star in the upper left.

  13. Tap the three-dot more button in the top right to customize the Translation app.

  14. On this screen, you can adjust settings for the app, like the pronunciation speed, whether or not you want translations to auto-play, whether you prefer to type or speak, or enable offline translations.

  15. Scroll down and tap Preferred Input to change how you input text for translation.

  16. Select Text if you would rather type instead of speak.

  17. When you switch to Text, the microphone icon will change into a keyboard icon. Simply tap it to type in the text you want to translate.
