I recently reviewed a number of iPhone accessories from Moshi, so I was surprised when the company sent me another item just a few days later. It looks like Moshi was working on something that improves upon the items I just reviewed. The Porto Q 5K Portable Battery with Built-in Wireless Charger ($84.95) has a nice fabric and rubber surface like their previous wireless Qi charger, but this has some welcome enhancements.

First, the charger has an oblong size instead of circular that allows for greater stability, which is especially important with the new larger smartphones. However, this device operates both stationary or as a portable 5K charger, which can charge wirelessly via Qi or using the included USB port. The device itself recharges using USB-C with the included cable.

The unit is pricey but it's probably unfair to compare it with devices that only do one or the other (portability or wireless charging.) There is just one color option (gray), and I would like to see rubber footpads to avoid slippage.

Pros

  • Fabric and rubber surface
  • Oblong size for greater stability
  • Stationary or Portable 5K charger
  • USB-C cable included
  • USB port for traditional charging

Cons

  • Pricey
  • One color option (gray)
  • Could use rubber footpads to avoid slippage

Final Verdict

The Porto Q 5K Portable Battery with Built-in Wireless Charger from Moshi gives you the best of both worlds, a portable battery pack and Qi-based wireless charging.
