How to Customize Lock Screen on iPad

  • You can now customize the theme, clock, font, and color and add widgets to the Lock Screen on iPadOS 17.

Since iOS 16 was released, iPhone users have been able to add widgets, adjust font, and change the clock style of their lock screens, but this feature was unavailable on iPad. Now, with iPadOS 17, you can finally customize your iPad Lock Screen. Here's how to edit the Lock Screen on iPad.

System Requirements

  • iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation and later)
  • iPad Pro 10.5-inch.
  • iPad Pro 11-inch (1st generation and later)
  • iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
  • iPad (6th generation and later)
  • iPad mini (5th generation and later)

It's super exciting that one of the most popular features that came with iOS 16, the ability to customize the Lock Screen with widgets, themes, and fonts, is now available on the iPad with iPadOS 17.  Before you begin, make sure you have the iPadOS 17 beta installed. Customize iPad Lock Screen via Settings

The first way to customize your iPad Lock Screen is by going into Settings.

  1. On your iPad, open Settings.

  2. Tap Wallpaper.

  3. Tap Customize to edit existing iPad Wallpaper.

  4. If this is the first time you've customized your iPad Lock Screen and wallpaper, you may need to choose whether to Customize Current Wallpaper or Add New Wallpaper. Either option will do.

  5. From here, you will be given the option of selecting a theme.

  6. Once you've chosen, you can add interactable widgets.

  7. Customize the font and color of the clock.

  8. And choose the widget to feature at the top.

  9. Once you're done, tap Add.

  10. You'll be prompted about whether you would like to Set as a Wallpaper Pair or set the Home Screen individually.

Customize Lock Screen on iPad via Lock Screen

Another super convenient way to edit your iPad Lock Screen is via the Lock Screen itself. This is a great way to make quick edits or changes or just add a new Lock Screen altogether when you're on the go. Here's how:

  1. Once the iPad is unlocked but still showing the Lock Screen, press and hold anywhere on the screen.

  2. From here, tap Customize to edit the current Lock Screen.

  3. Or, tap the blue plus button to create a new Lock Screen.
