Organize Apps with App Library
The App Library makes it easier than ever to find and open hidden apps. Follow the steps below to learn how to open, access, and search for your iPad apps within the App Library.
-
Tap the App Library icon on your iPad Dock to open it. (If you don't see the App Library icon on your dock, you can also swipe left to your last Home screen and swipe left one more time.)
-
Apps are automatically sorted into category folders, such as Utilities. If a category has the four smaller apps displayed in a corner, this means there are more apps in the folder that are not being displayed. Tap the four smaller apps to expand the folder and view all apps in a selected category.
-
To search for an app, tap the search bar. From here, you can type in the name of an app or scroll through the alphabetized list to open it. At any point, you can open an app by tapping on it.
If you don’t see the App Library shortcut on your iPad Dock and would like to add it, this can be quickly adjusted in settings. To add the shortcut, open Settings, tap Home Screen & Dock, and tap the toggle next to Show App Library in Dock. The toggle is green when enabled, and the App Library shortcut will now appear in your dock.
Install Apps & Adjust App Store Filters
App developers have released more than a million apps developed specifically for the iPad. These apps have special features for tablets and are optimized for larger screens. Whenever possible, we recommend sticking with apps developed specifically for iPad, but what if you can’t find one of your favorite apps in the iPad App Store? Many iPhone apps will run on the iPad but may look a little awkward blown up for the bigger screen. However, if you still want to download the app to use on your iPad, you can do this by adjusting the App Store search filters.
When you open the App Store on your iPad, the results will show the iPad-specific versions of apps by default. Below, we’ll walk through how to adjust the search filters to show both iPad and iPhone supported apps.
-
Launch the App Store and search for the name of the app you wish to download. If you are looking for a specific app and see a bunch of related apps but not the official version, that means the developer has not created an iPad-specific version of the app. To adjust your search filters, tap on the Search bar and tap Filters on the left corner.
-
Tap Supports, then tap to select both iPad Only and iPhone Only device options. Tap Done to close the menu.
The app will now appear in the search results. Tap Get and enter your Apple ID and password to download the app.
Delete Apps
Sometimes you try an app you just don’t like, other times, you may find that this app is no longer needed or relevant. In these cases, uninstalling and deleting the app can help to free up storage space and reduce clutter on your Home screen. Here’s how to uninstall and delete an app:
-
Press and hold the app you want to delete to open the quick actions menu.
-
Tap Delete App. If you want to clear clutter from your Home screen but keep the app, you can also select the option to Remove from Home Screen.
If you ever change your mind about an app you’ve deleted, you can simply go back to the App Store and redownload the app.
