As more developers wrap their heads around how to write (and play)Apple TV gaming apps, it could become a more compelling purchase. One such developer is Happy Labs, which makes a few such Apple TV apps, including Happy Swordplay ($2.99).
Happy Play is an Apple TV app, but the developer offers a free companion app for an iPhone that lets you play along with the Apple TV version. Kids who may be migrating from the Nintendo Wii platform will appreciate the bright, colorful graphics. Speaking of consoles, at $2.99, Happy Swordplay is much more reasonably priced than console games, although it doesn't have the kind of levels and variety of disc-based games.
Happy Play is relatively family-friendly, despite the swordplay. It's more like wielding Nerf swords that you might see at a Cosplay event. It would be nice if there was a free or lite version so people could try before they buy. Also, be sure to keep a good grip on your Siri Remote and iOS device so they don't fly off during gameplay!
