Review: Activity Tracking without an Apple Watch

I have an Apple Watch, but there are times when I don't always wear it. That's why I was pleased to try the Activity Tracker app (free) from Bits&Coffee. Even as I type this, my Apple Watch battery has less than 10 percent left. This is why I can't always wear it, but I almost always have my iPhone with me. When combined with the Activity Tracker app, I can keep track of steps via the built-in pedometer independent of my Apple Watch.

Activity Tracker

The app itself is quite beautiful and clearly takes some styling cues from Apple Watch, such as the color scheme and circular progress chart. Despite not having all the benefits of a dedicated fitness band such as the Apple Watch or a FitBit, the pedometer is remarkably accurate. There is plenty of functionality for free, but for $2.99 you can add Pro features, including Watch & HealthKit sync, Weekly & Monthly stats, Hourly Stats (last seven days), and Import/Export capabilities. Keep in mind that it doesn't track stationary activities, such as stationary bicycling.

  • Remarkably accurate without a dedicated fitness tracking device
  • Plenty of functionality for free

Cons

  • Doesn't track stationary activities

Final Verdict

If you want to track your steps and activity, without a dedicated fitness wearable, the Activity Tracker from Bits&Coffee does a great job.
