How to Summarize Text on the iPhone with Apple Intelligence

How to Use Apple’s Summarize Tool

This tip works on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, and iPhone 16 Pro running iOS 18.1 or later. Find out how to update to the latest version of iOS.

With Apple Intelligence, you can easily summarize your text into a single paragraph, into bullet points, a table, and more. Keep in mind, you’ll need an Apple Intelligence enabled device, such as the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16, or iPhone 16 Pro. Now, here’s how to use summarize on your iPhone:

  1. Anywhere that you’ve typed text, select all of the text.

  2. Tap the Apple Intelligence icon.

  3. Select Summary to summarize the text.

  4. You’ll see a single paragraph summary of your text. You can select Copy to copy the summary, Replace to replace your text with the summary, or tap Share to share the summary with others.

  5. Tap Done when you are finished.

  6. Select Key Points to see your text narrowed down to its most important points.

  7. You’ll see your text boiled down to its key points, with the same options as Summary: Copy, Replace, and Share. Select Done when you are finished.

  8. Select List to see your text narrowed down to a bulleted list.

  9. Unlike the previous two options, List will replace your text. This option differs from Key Points in that Key Points summarizes your text, and List simply converts what you’ve already typed into a bulleted list. Tap Original to see your original text or Revert to change it back.

  10. Tap Done to save your new text.

  11. Tap Table to see your typed text converted to a table.

  12. You’ll have the same Original and Revert options as the List option.

  13. Tap Done to save the table.
