How to Transfer a Call from iPhone to HomePod & Use Your HomePod as a Speaker Phone

To use your HomePod as a speakerphone, your HomePod must be properly set up (see How to Set Up Your New HomePod). Your iPhone and HomePod must be on the same network, and you must have access to the HomePod as a speaker.

  1. Make a call or receive a call on your iPhone.
  2. While the call is ongoing, tap the Audio icon on your Phone app.

  3. Choose your HomePod from the menu that pops up. My HomePod is labeled Office. If you don't remember what you named your HomePod, look for the icon that's a picture of a HomePod.
  4. Now the Audio icon will display a HomePod icon instead of a speaker, to indicate that the call has been routed to your HomePod.

  5. Also, a green light will appear on the top of your HomePod once the audio connects from your iPhone.

From here, you can tap the plus or minus icons on top of your HomePod to raise or lower the volume of your speakerphone call.

You can't use Siri on your HomePod while you're using the HomePod as a speakerphone, so:

  1. To mute a call that's been transferred to your HomePod, tap the mute icon on your iPhone's Phone app.

  2. To transfer the call back to your iPhone, tap the audio icon on your Phone app, then choose your iPhone from the menu.
  3. To end the call you can either tap the top of your HomePod, or tap the hang up icon on your iPhone's Phone app.

Now you can use send phone calls to your HomePod, and walk around your room talking hands-free!
