As someone who learned how to play the guitar from an ancient, deteriorating songbook, I was eager to jump on apps that simplify the learning process. While nothing can beat face-to-face lessons or professional training, taking advantage of the technology of today is a fantastic way to improve your skills. Whether you just want to learn to play that new song you heard on the radio or are ready to record a song, these five apps are perfect for the guitar player at any stage in the learning process.

While kids may flock to PopSockets, the colorful collapsible stand that you may have seen on the back of people's iPhones, there's an alternative that may appeal to kids as well as older folks who need to keep a secure grip on their mobile devices. On the other hand, the AirDrop feature (iOS 7 or above for iPhones and Mac OS X 10.7 for computers) lets you share contacts from your phone to your computer through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. The Finder/iTunes feature lets you sync contacts through a USB connection. For this article, we used an iPhone running on iOS 13 and a computer on macOS Catalina (macOS 10.15).

One of the new ways to save time while typing on your iPhone in iOS 13 is a three-finger swipe or tap gesture that can be used to undo or redo in any app that allows text editing. You can use this gesture instead of Shake to Undo to undo or redo typing and other edits on your iPhone, whether you're using individual keys or Quick Type. In fact, you can go ahead and turn off Shake to Undo completely, because you'll want to use this new gesture instead!
